Come aboard, we're expecting you.
You may have noticed that two days passed with no entry. That would be due to my 'back to nature' tour. We went on a pseudo-camping trip where we did the following: swimming, volleyball, basketball, shuffleboard, horseshoes, miniature golf, and rafting. Here are a few things we didin't do: anything involving a tv, video game, or electronics.

A couple of posts ago, I mentioned the fact that as a kid, you go barefoot for most of the summer. Well, yesterday I figured out what happens when you go 20 years with shoes on and then you try to walk in a river barefoot. It almost felt like some bizarre torture. The irony is that for the last 8 years, whenever I would get new tennis shoes, I would try to save the oldest pair in the rotation with the excuse that they could be my 'float trip shoes'. After several of these saves, and no float trips in view, I started donating these shoes. Now here was a time when I really could have used them, and I went without. Luckily the outpost general store sold some 'water shoes' for $10. If they had only known I would have paid $30. They were the slip on mesh topped aquatic slippers. My father-in-law said I looked like a fairy. I'm going to go ahead give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he meant a fairy, like fairy god mother, but I would have sworn they looked more like genie shoes.
